Palakkad, which once was known as Palakkattussery, is 350 kilometers away from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. It is situated near the Palghat Gap which is a pass that runs parallel to the waste coast on the Western Ghats.

Tharakkad Neeratu Ganapathy Sankata Hara Chathurthy which is celebrated monthly, Kallepully Kummati Kummati Festival celebrated during February and March every year, and Vadakkanthara Vela which is celebrated every three years.
